The show title is “Paper Romance” . . . the cover artwork of illustrator George H. Jones and the romance book revival in the late 20th century.

Romance novels have been around for centuries, from Jane Austen (Pride & Prejudice, 1813) to Janet Dailey (Calder Pride, 1999).  In the last year of the 20th century, more than half of all mass-market and trade paperbacks sold in North America were romance novels (Romance Writers of America, website rwa.org). The book cover illustrations of publishing houses for series like the Harlequin Historical Romance to Silhouette Intimate Moments, were a critical component of the marketing success of the contemporary novel series.  This show presents a historical view of the genre, and the contribution of the illustrator (G.H. Jones) producing 300+ covers during the course of his career.
