ARTIST CALL
MAC/WABABA/WBA Mural Project

Due to Covid and other delays, this project was rescheduled.
Fortunately, this added time allowed us to enhance the award for this project from $1500 to $3000

 Project Overview:

The Walnut Beach neighborhood has been a developing Arts & Business District for many years. While the businesses and area artists continue to embody the creative drive of this neighborhood and flourish, there are still opportunities for new ideas, beautification, and transformation. We all see the potential for the arts to be a transformative force to further the efforts of these businesses, artists and neighbors who continue to work hard and make big things happen for the betterment of our entire community.

The WABABA (Walnut Beach Arts & Business Association), WBA (Walnut Beach Association), and MAC (Milford Arts Council & the MAC’s Firehouse Gallery) have partnered to provide the funding for a unique beatification project/mural situated at the heart of the business district near the corner of Broadway and Naugatuck (map link).

 Project Goal:

This mural aims to connect the businesses on Broadway and Naugatuck, near their intersection, inviting visitors to stroll and linger, while enjoying all aspects of the area. It will also provide a major improvement to the visual impact of the neighborhood to the surrounding businesses and visitors. This neighborhood has a rich history as a tourism and resort destination from the 1910’s-1950’s complete with amusement park, dance hall pier and trolley system. Now, the Walnut Beach neighborhood is host to eclectic storefronts, free concerts and farmer’s markets at the beach, street parties, festivals and a “can-do” community who want their neighborhood to thrive.
