Join us for an evening with a Baklava Express Concert, a genre-defying NYC ensemble
Baklava Express weaves Ashkenazi and Mizrahi folk music with the vibrant Mediterranean musical heritage for a dynamic, cross-cultural concert experience at the MAC.
Baklava Express is a New York City–based cross-cultural fusion project led by award-winning composer and oud player Josh Kaye. The ensemble performs original music shaped by a wide range of influences, from Ashkenazi and Mizrahi folk traditions to the broader Mediterranean musical heritage. Drawing on the diverse musical backgrounds of its members, Baklava Express has developed a sound that is both distinctive and defiantly genre-fluid
Featuring Josh Kaye (oud/composition) alongside Daisy Castro (violin), James Robbins (bass), and Jeremy Smith (percussion), the ensemble delivers a richly textured concert experience driven by interplay, momentum, and musical experience.
The band has been featured at major events, including the Brooklyn International Music Festival, the Greek Jewish Festival, and the Nyack Jazz Festival, and their music appears on the soundtrack of the short animated film Ariel by Conor Mcfinn. Baklava Express released their debut album Dávka in 2023, with their upcoming album Sababa scheduled for release in 2026.
