East/West PlayFest 2026

East/West PlayFest is a collaborative summer theatre event from MAC’s Eastbound Theatre and Westport Community Theatre, featuring five original, juried one-act plays selected from hundreds of national submissions—performed in both Milford and Westport, CT.

Open Auditions Information

Auditions will be held on June 8th, 9th and 10th
at the Margaret Egan Center, 35 Matthews Street in Milford.
Auditions begin at 7 pm each night.

Performances

Each play will be presented at two 4 pm matinee performances Saturday and Sunday, July 11 and 12 at the Milford Historical Society.
Each play will then be presented the following weekend with two evening shows at 7:30 pm Friday, July 17 and Saturday, July 18 at Westport Community Theatre.

Plays

The short plays selected for this year’s festival are:

  • “The Cardboard Prophets” by Hannah Crothers of Saint John, New Brunswick-Canada, directed by Ann Baker of Milford. (Drama)
    2M, 2F, 20’s
    Four friends reunite and deal with a common trauma from their past.
  • “Spark of Life” by Ellen Abrams of New York, NY, directed by Mark Ferguson of Newtown. (Comedy)
    2F, 30-60
    Two women meet for the first time at the funeral of their husband/lover.
  • “Taken to School” by John Busser of Avon, OH, directed by Elayne Gordon of Norwalk. (Comedy)
    2M, father and son
    A career criminal tries to educate his son about the family business.
  • “The Collegians” by Tim Lehnert of Cranston, RI, directed by Tom Rushen of Stratford. (Comedy)
    2F, high school graduates
    1 gender neutral, 40-60
    Two competing students face an interview for a prestigious college.
  • “Memories, Lightly Used” by Greg A. Smith of Columbus, OH, directed by Erin Sullivan of Greenwich. (Drama)
    2 F, 40’s   At a high-tech version of a yard sale, a woman rummages through her neighbor’s memories looking to make an offer.

Notes on Casting

We welcome performers of all backgrounds, identities, and levels of experience.

Actors will be reading from the scripts, which include male and female roles for performers from their 20s through their 60s.

Resumes and headshots are preferred but not required.
