While the show is based on children’s characters from the comic strip, it is NOT a children’s show. Producers are looking for adults of any age to play the roles.
Key characters are:
Charlie Brown
The optimistic, sometimes self-deprecating main character. He is a loveable loser who is, on the one hand, self-defeatingly stubborn and on the other, admirably determined to try his best against all odds. Dominated by insecurities, this affable blockhead is humble but smart and vulnerable.
Sally Brown
Articulate, charismatic, lovable, sometimes eccentric and argumentative younger sister of Charlie Brown. She is noticeably intelligent and sharp-tongued for her age. Despite being portrayed as innocent, she is intense, balancing angst with sweetness and skepticism. She has a crush on Linus.
Linus Van Pelt
The thumb-sucking, blanket-dependent younger brother of Lucy, Linus is also Charlie Brown’s best friend. He is smart, sensitive and warm and acts as the show’s philosopher. Despite his mature vocabulary, he displays juvenile aspects of his character. While he is the second youngest in the group, he is the most mature.
Lucy Van Pelt
The crabby, opinionated, manipulative, older sister of Linus, she is bossy and perpetually offers arm-chair psychiatric advice. She balances her ability to be a brute with a capacity for compassion when necessary. She is actually a friend to Charlie Brown and is often misguided in her attempts to find ways to help him and Linus. She has an unrequited crush on Schroeder.
Snoopy (Male or Female)
Charlie Brown’s dog. A clownish, vaudevillian scene stealer who can really “sell it,” Snoopy is more human-like than dog. He dances exuberant circles around everyone else. He is smart, wise-cracking, and joyous. This role is physically demanding both in innovation and execution.
Schroeder
A friend to Charlie Brown, he is distinguished by his precocious skill at playing the toy piano, as well as by his love of classical music and for composer Ludwig van Beethoven. He could care less about Lucy’s romantic overtures. His love is for Beethoven and he is serious about his musical talents. Schroeder shines in his one number, “Beethoven Day,” which can be a show stopper. Ability to play piano a plus, but not mandatory.
