Theme

Milford Pride invites local Connecticut transgender, non-binary, and gender nonconforming artists to submit work for display in the second annual Milford Pride art show. The theme for the show is “Trans Joy,” artistic representations of the beauty of the trans experience. Despite the constant challenges and hate facing the trans community, we want to showcase the importance and power of joy, pride, and positivity.

 

Opening Reception

Thursday, February 6,  6-8 PM

Key Exhibit Items / Dates

  • Location: The MAC Downtown –  for exhibit, opening reception, works intake and works pickup
  • Submissions Close: Friday,  January 17, 2025  at midnight
  • Selection Notification: 3 – 5 Days following Submission Deadline, via email to the address on your submission form
  • Works Intake:  Saturday, January 25   and  Sunday January 26,  10-12 Noon both days
  • Gallery Hours:  Tuesday – Friday,  12 -4pm,  February 7 – March 21
  • Works Pick Up: Friday, March 21  4-6pm and  Saturday, March 22 , 10am – 12 Noon

Eligibility

  • Work must be original with the artist’s own concept and design. 
  • Only two-dimensional work can be accepted.  The gallery cannot support three-dimensional pieces.
  • By submitting work to this exhibit you are attesting that the work submitted is your own and there has been no copyright infringement. 
  • Milford Pride will not be held liable for any infringement of rights that might surface during the displaying of any image.

 

Submission Guidelines

  • Submissions are due by Friday, January 17. Artists may submit up to five (5) items. To submit, please fill out the form, linked below.

  • The first submission by each entrant is guaranteed to be accepted, as long as the work was submitted by the deadline and includes the required information.
    • Any additional pieces’ inclusion will be determined by Milford Pride based on space available. 
  • All works must be wired for hanging safely and securely from our walls, or they will not be accepted.  
    • No clip frames, saw-tooth hangers, french cleats or brackets will be accepted.  
    • Wire your 2D art as shown in the photo.
    • No 3D works are accepted for this gallery.
  • Art work cannot exceed 36” in width, excluding frame, without prior approval of Milford Pride.
    • No work can be over 25 pounds.  
    • Watercolors, pastels, mixed media, graphics and photography must be framed and under glass or plexiglass.  Note that we also accept mounted work, wired unframed work, and framed work (like oils) with no glass.

 

Sales

  • Sales will be coordinated through Milford Pride. 
  • Milford Pride receives a 30% commission on all sales. This will help cover the cost of the Opening Reception, as well as support ongoing programming by Milford Pride.

 

Delivering Your Work

  • Work must be delivered in person – we are not accepting shipped work for this exhibit.
  • Delivery instructions will be coordinated once your work has been accepted into the show.
  • Wire your 2D works securely and according to the best practices photo shown above.
  • Works that are not properly wired will not be accepted at delivery.
  • Include two tags, taped to each submitted work, listing: Title, Artist, Phone number & Price.

 

Terms of Entry / Disclaimers

  • Emails about the art show are sent from milfordctpride@gmail.com. We recommend that you add this address to your contacts list so that the notice does not go to spam or some other unmonitored mail folder. 
  • Reasonable care and precautions are taken for the safe custody of works of art deposited at MAC galleries. Works of art can, however, only be received in the gallery on condition that neither the MAC and its staff nor Milford Pride not be liable for any loss or damage to works of art, which might occur while they are in the gallery or in transit.
  • It is the responsibility of the artist to deliver accepted work(s) according to the specifications of the prospectus (media type, dimension limits, etc.) and to ensure that all works are properly and safely wired for hanging upon delivery. Milford Pride reserves the right to request complying changes or to reject the work(s) on delivery.   
  • Milford Pride receives a 30% commission fee on all work sold through exhibits, please price accordingly. 
  • Deposited artwork that is not picked up within 30 days of the scheduled artist pickup date listed in the artist call prospectus will become property of the MAC.

Online Submission Form / Instructions

  • Start the Form – Click the button below to open the submission form.
    • We use Google Forms to capture the data for the entry form. Google requires that you sign-in to your Google account for security purposes.
    • This sign-in is just to access the form. Once the form is open for entry, you will be asked to enter an email address (does not have to be your Gmail address). This email address is the one we will use to contact you about acceptance or any other details about the exhibit that might come up.
  • Section 1: Enter your contact information
    • Your email address is critical. Use one that you monitor often.
      Ensure you’ve spelled it correctly.
    • Include a mobile phone number. We may call or text if we need to reach you quickly, or email fails.
  • Section 2: Upload images and details of your work
    • Note that photos are used for selecting submitted works for the exhibit.
    • The photo of your work should include the frame if you are using one.
    • The description field should include the overall measurements of your work including frame (is using one).
    • File formats accepted: JPEG, PNG, HEIC, WEBP
    • Your photo file should be named in this format: YourName_Title of Work.
    • Provide details about the work in the Description section of the form: Title, Medium, Size (including frame & matte if framed), Price (NFS is OK).  
    • Optional but very helpful is your artist statement about the work.

  • Section 3: Terms of Entry / Disclaimers
    • Please read the Terms of Entry and all disclaimers thoroughly and carefully before submitting the form.
    • Submit the form.
