Join us for a Tyrone Shoelaces Concert, a wild, genre-blending experience of reggae, funk, rock, swing, bluegrass, disco, and dub described as “a sexy, groovin’ surge of soul and energy.”

With a decade-strong lineup and explosive improvisation, Tyrone Shoelaces delivers performances that build from deep groove into bold, experimental highs.

Tyrone Shoelaces is a genre-defying ensemble led by songwriter Chuck Chesler, known for a “wild and sexy eclectic mix of reggae, funk, and groovin’ rhythms that surge one’s soul.” Since the band’s inception, their sound has continued to evolve into an energetic fusion of rock, reggae, swing, funk, bluegrass, disco, and dub—moving fluidly from deep, danceable grooves into explosive, experimental moments filled with edge and improvisation.

With a core lineup that has played together for over a decade, Tyrone Shoelaces thrives on the positive interplay between musicians from different generations and musical backgrounds. The band celebrated its 10-year anniversary during COVID, released its fourth record in 2022, and continues to push forward with Pachamama—a genre-spanning collection centered on gratitude and Mother Earth—alongside new singles and an EP arrived in March 2025.

Meet Our Band!

Chuck Chesler - Writer, Musical Director, Multi-Instrumentalist & Vocals +

Beyond Tyrone Shoelaces, Chuck remains in high demand throughout the Northeast, performing with projects including Ghost Train, Shakedown, and other genre-crossing ensembles. His continued visibility and collaboration across scenes has fueled growing interest in Tyrone Shoelaces. Recently, Chuck was honored with a sponsorship from Vintage Vibe Pianos, the same instruments favored by Stevie Wonder—a recognition that underscores his musicianship and standing in the modern music world.

Sammy Wags - Drums, Percussion & Vocals +

Sammy Wags is a steadily rising leader and distinctive voice in modern world, jazz, and groove-based music. Since meeting Chuck Chesler in 2011, Sammy has been a driving force on drums for Tyrone Shoelaces, shaping the band’s rhythmic depth and dynamic evolution.

Beyond TSL, he is the composer, producer, and drummer for the critically acclaimed Afrobeat/Jazz group The Brighton Beat, as well as the composer, producer, and keyboardist for the modern soul/funk quartet Mr. Clifford. Sammy also leads an ever-evolving project under his own name, where he performs on a hybrid guitar/bass instrument of his own design—underscoring his inventive approach to both sound and performance.

Captain Phillip “P” Smith - Bass & Vocals +

Philip P. Smith, affectionately known as Capn’ Phil, has been holding down the low end for Tyrone Shoelaces since 2013. Hailing from Attleboro, Massachusetts, he’s earned his nickname for his steady, driving presence that anchors and propels the band, and is a sought-after bassist throughout the Providence music scene.

Jimmy Bennett - Multi-Instrumentalist +

Jimmy Bennett and Chuck Chesler first met in 1994 when Jimmy was auditioning for Joe D’Urso & Stone Caravan, beginning a lifelong musical partnership. Nearly two decades later, during a pivotal moment for Tyrone Shoelaces, it was Jimmy’s simple but powerful reassurance—“Just get the gig, I’ll play guitar and we’ll find bass and drums”—that helped keep the band alive and moving forward, words that continue to guide TSL to this day.

A guitarist in constant demand, Jimmy has performed with Levon Helm and the Marshall Tucker Band, and remains deeply rooted in his longtime project with his brother in The Bennett Brothers Band. He also serves as Musical Director for The Alexis P. Sutter Band, bringing leadership, experience, and soulful musicianship to every stage he steps on.

Miss Milo - Vocals +

Miss Milo has been singing since she was able to speak, developing a powerful and expressive voice shaped by influences ranging from Aretha Franklin to Adele. Drawing from funk, R&B, and classic rock, her vocal style blends soul, grit, and emotional depth into every performance.

She began her professional music career sitting in at local funk nights and performing with Grateful Dead cover bands in Black Rock, Connecticut, quickly becoming a sought-after presence on the local scene. Miss Milo has shared the stage with members of Deep Banana Blackout, West End Blend, and many other acclaimed musicians, and has been a vocalist with Red Matter since 2019, continuing to build a dynamic and respected career.

Elana Zaberi - Vocals +

Elana Zaberi first crossed paths with Chuck Chesler in 2013 when she walked into an open jam he was hosting and boldly asked to sing “Rock and Roll” by Led Zeppelin just minutes before midnight. Five minutes later, after blowing the room away with her powerhouse performance, a lasting musical connection was born—and Chuck and Elana have been singing together ever since.

Today, Elana can be found throughout Connecticut performing her original songs and playing guitar, bringing raw energy, confidence, and authenticity to every stage. Her commanding voice and fearless presence continue to make her a standout force in the regional music scene.

Simon Pajaro - Saxophone & Flute +

Simon Pajaro has been holding down the saxophone for Tyrone Shoelaces for over five years. A Berklee College of Music graduate and Musical Director of the School of Rock in Rye, NY, Simon is based in Harlem and can be found performing regularly at jazz clubs throughout the tri-state area.

The TSL Horns +

The TSL Horns bring power, punch, and dynamic energy to Tyrone Shoelaces. The current lineup features Simon Pajaro on saxophone, Mike Bafundo on trumpet, and John Mundy on trombone—together delivering bold arrangements and electrifying horn lines that elevate the band’s signature sound.

TSL Alumni. Tyrone Shoelaces would never have been able to survive and thrive for so long without the talent, dedication, and love of its extended musical family. We honor the many incredible musicians who have contributed to the TSL journey over the years. Click here to learn more about the alumni.
