We were unanimous in our decision as we felt a release of joy into the room. The movement and colors are vibrant and speak to listening to music, dancing, seeing the burst of color in spring. It just made us happy to witness.

Maritza Quintuna
Living in a Busy World in Your Own World

Description
Color pencils on gray paper. 13in by 20in. NFS

Artist Statement

Remember those days as a student when you couldn’t wait to reach the finish line? I’ve felt that way many times, until I realized I had it all wrong. Every step forward, every wins, and every mistake was about discovering who I was meant to be and growing through each experience.

Judges’ Comments

Maritza’s piece speaks to me as a creative person. It’s how I imagined Times Square to be as a kid. Frantic energy, bold colors  and possibilities. The perspective and line work is like something out of a comic book. Masterful work.
