About the Show The story is set on a remote island, where Prospero, a magician, lives with his daughter Miranda, and his two servants: Caliban, a savage monster figure, and Ariel, an airy spirit. The play contains music and songs that evoke the spirit of enchantment on the island. It explores many themes, including magic, betrayal, revenge, forgiveness and family.
The Tempest (Brief Synopsis)
Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, has been marooned for years on a remote and magical island with his daughter Miranda, after his brother Antonio usurped his position. Using the power of his magic, Prospero conjures a storm (the “tempest”) to shipwreck his brother and his allies, bringing them to the island for a lesson in revenge which turns into a lesson on forgiveness and reconciliation. Over the course of the play romances form, conspiracies unfold, and characters reflect on their actions as the play explores themes of power, betrayal, forgiveness and love.
